Providing high quality, color-accurate, representative prints is our number one commitment to our customers. Our artists provide professional, high quality, high resolution, color-corrected digital captures of their artwork. Images are sized and processed for each print size to ensure ultimate print sharpness. If print medium texture is visible on the original artwork (e.g., canvas texture), it will also be apparent in the print.
Yes, all of our prints are considered archival. That means they are printed on acid-free mediums using archival inks and printing methods. They are made to last a lifetime as long as they are properly hung and cared for (more on that below).
If you’re not sure what kind of print medium to order, the following information may help you with your decision. Paper prints come loose and require framing. We recommend professional framing with UV-protective glazing, matting and proper sealing to prevent warping. Canvas and metal prints come unframed but are ready to hang with D-rings and hanging wire installed. Canvas can also be framed with float frames being the most popular option. Metal prints are typically hung unframed.
Our archival matte fine art paper prints are essentially glare-free but your choice of glazing will determine the amount of glare or reflections on your print. If you have few windows or lights near your hanging location then this will not be an issue. If you do, you may want to consider dedicated lighting and/or museum-quality glazing that reduces reflections and glare. Or opt for canvas which has a textured semi-gloss surface and isn’t as prone to glare and reflections. Canvas prints are not suitable for damp areas as the wooden stretcher bars can warp.
Our glossy metal prints are our most durable option and best suited for damp locations such as bathrooms. Because they have a smooth glossy finish, metal prints also perform best in locations with limited lights and windows. Or you can install dedicated overhead lighting for your print which will really make it come to life and prevent unwanted glare and reflections.
We currently only offer reproduction (giclee) prints. Most of our artists offer their original work for sale elsewhere. All artists are encouraged to include links on their artists pages for where customers can get original works. We are here to support our artists and would be ecstatic if you chose to purchase an original from one of them.
Many people underestimate the size of print needed to properly fill wall space. A general rule to serve as a starting point is that you want the framed piece to take up 40-60% of the open wall area where you want to hang it. Take into consideration additional width associated with any planned framing.
While we work hard to protect prints during shipping, sometimes accidents do happen. If your print arrives damaged or flawed please respond to your order confirmation email (from info@theartbin.com), attach photos of the damage, and briefly describe the issue. Once we’ve reviewed your email and coordinated with the print lab, a replacement print will be processed and shipped as quickly as possible. While reprints are prioritized please allow for standard processing and shipping times for your replacement. You will receive a new order confirmation and tracking for the replacement order.
Our policy is to provide immediate replacement for any prints that are flawed or damaged. See the question above for instructions related to requesting immediate replacement for damaged or flawed prints.
We also guarantee the quality and longevity of our prints as long as they are hung and maintained in accordance with our print care recommendations (included below on this FAQ page). This guarantee is limited to the original purchaser for the life of the print. If you are not satisfied with your print please send an email to info@theartbin.com along with your order information and a description of the issue at hand. For guarantee-related refunds or replacements, we will typically request photographs of the print including detailed images of the issue at hand, and photographs of the hanging location including an overall photo of the room and window locations. We may also inquire about maintenance and care procedures that have been taken. This information is necessary to ensure that print quality has not deteriorated due to improper hanging or care-related issues. If it is determined that the claim is warranted, we will inquire as to whether a refund or replacement is preferred and proceed with processing the request immediately.
We recommend professional framing your print with glazing (glass or acrylic) that provides 99% UV protection. Hang your fine art print in a location that is not subject to direct sunlight. Even with protective glazing, other wavelengths in the light spectrum will fade the print with time. Don’t spray window glass cleaner on the glass (or acrylic). It is really difficult to “catch” all of the cleaner before it gets to the bottom of the print and when it does, it can find its way behind the glass to your print. If that happens, the cleaner can leach into the paper and ruin your print. Avoid using anything abrasive including paper towels. Instead, use a soft dry cloth (microfiber works great) or feather duster to clear dust if possible. If cleaner is needed for fingerprints or other substances use an ammonia-free glass cleaner. Sparkle is a common brand and Tru Vue also sells one. There are others out there, just make sure it is ammonia free. Spraying the cleaner onto a microfiber cloth and then cleaning with the cloth is a good practice. DO NOT use alcohol, denatured alcohol, acetone, mineral spirits, etc. to clean acrylic.
While some canvas prints are treated with a protective varnish, ours are not. Varnishes alter colors and we prefer to leave the decision of whether or not to varnish to our customers. Varnishing is a simple process for which you can find instructions by searching online. Varnishing your canvas will give it an additional protective layer; however, it is not critical as long as you handle your print carefully and care for it properly. Hang your canvas print in a location that is not subject to direct sunlight. Even with UV-protective varnish, other wavelengths in the light spectrum will fade the print with time. Dust frequently with a feather duster or microfiber cloth to avoid the need for deeper cleaning. If necessary, use a clean damp cloth for a deeper clean and wipe as gently as possible. Don’t soak or spray the print. Don’t hang in damp or humid areas to avoid mold and warping of stretcher bars.
Hang your metal print in a location that is not subject to direct sunlight. Do not use anything abrasive including paper towels. Use a soft dry cloth (microfiber works great) or feather duster to clear dust. If cleaner is needed for fingerprints or other substances use a little bit of denatured alcohol or acetone applied to a microfiber cloth.
